Misc. Notes
A letter from his brother Thomas in 1817 states that John "is in a very good state of health and still remains on his old farm and has purchased 50 acres more adjoining"
He is in the 1820 census showing as over 45 and working in agriculture (farm).
A letter from John to his brother James (in Ireland) dated 18 May 1827 mentions how Jane, Mary, Samuel and Thomas are doing. It then mentions that John is still single, has nearly cleared the farm, has little debt and plans to see Ohio when it is paid. He also mentions that he is 18 miles from the canal which is 300 miles long and goes to New York with the help of several lakes.
Listed alone in 1830 as age 40-49.
Listed alone on his farm in 1840, age 50-59, on the same page as James W. Carr (15-20) with a wife and child.
Listed as a farmer (78, IRE) with just his sister Jane in 1850.
In letter of 20 Feb 1851 he mentions that his sister Jane is living with him, and that he has sold the farm for $1,650 and they plan to go to Ohio next August. Jane is worth $500 and is not "beholding" to any of her relations.
In 1860, John Carr and his sister, Jane Hagan, are listed with a Hunt family on the farm in DeRuyter, possibly the new owners or share croppers, etc. He is now 88 and is listed with $2,000 of personal property, but no land.
