Brynjel (he always spelled his name "Brynhjolf") was the first of his immediate family to emigrate. His mother’s cousin, Halvor Johnson (son of her uncle Jon Halvorson) had gone to Goodhue Co, Minnesota before 1869. After Halvor returned to Norway in the spring of 1882, Brynjel returned to America with him in 1883 on the steamship State of Nebraska from Glasgow and arrived in Kelso, Dakota Territory, April 24, 1883.

Listed in 1900 with his wife Annie Rover (Mar 1870, NOR) of 6 yrs, a son and two daughters.
He and his family are living near his father in Alberta, Canada for the 1906 census there.
(from "Nerison and Bergene Roots and Branches" by Laurence Edward Nerison, 2003)
Brynhjolf J. Stolee was born in Norway in 1866. In the spring of 1882, his uncle Halvor Røvær, who had moved to America, made a return trip to Norway. In 1883 Halvor returned to the United States taking Brynhjolf with him. They traveled on the steamship State of Nebraska from Glaskow and arrived in Kelso, Dakota Territory April 24, 1883. With this trip, Brynhjolf began a migration to America that would eventually be taken up by all the other members of his family. He worked off his travel debt to the Røværs and in 1887 led the family in another migration to the central Dakota Territory homesteading about two miles north of the present North Dakota/South Dakota state line north of Pollock, South Dakota. On May 19, 1894, Brynhjolf married Anna Caroline Peterson, a young teacher who had come from Larvik, Norway. B.J., as he was known, was a leader in getting a local church started. As the damp conditions of the climate and their sod house was having a bad effect on Anna's health, B.J. began looking to move to a different climate, including the possibility of moving back to Norway. In 1902, he struck out for Western Canada eventually settling in Alberta. Again the rest of the family followed. Only his brother Michael, now in France, his sister Ingeborg, now in Nebraska, and his sister Anna, remaining in the Dakotas, did not emigrate to Canada. Brynhjolf died in 1955.

Children: Peter B. (February 24, 1895); Constance (1897); Agnes Christine (1899); Hannah Marie (1900); Jacob B. (October 26, 1903); John Selmer (March 30, 1905); Ingeborg (1906); Alice M. (1909); B. August (1910); B. Michael (1912)
