GIBSON CITY – Patricia Tomes, 84, of Gibson City died at 12:40 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 15, 2018) at Champaign-Urbana Nursing and Rehab, Savoy. Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018, at Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City, with the Rev. Jim Davis officiating. Burial will be in Bellflower Township Cemetery Bellflower. Visitation will be held an hour before the service.
Mrs. Tomes was born July 24, 1933, in Bellflower, a daughter of William Pearl and Trella (Jones) Wells. She married Gene Tomes on Sept. 16, 1950, in Bloomington. He died Sept. 21, 2016.
Surviving are six children, Rita Myren and Sherry (Gerald) Coit both of Gibson City, William Tomes of Champaign, Bob Tomes of Wapella, Jerry (Cathy) Tomes and Debra (Ernesto) Navejas both of Gibson City; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Roberta Wells; sister, Mary VanNote; stepsister, Sherry Donoho; and half brother, Richard Dobbins.
Patricia was a housekeeper at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, then at Gibson Area Hospital. She then worked at Electronics Corp. in Gibson City. She loved to bowl, go camping, play cards, eat popcorn and spend time with her family.
