In 1889 when they all left the Red River Valley for the central Dakota Territory, Jacob and Aasa homesteaded a mile or two south of the present North Dakota/South Dakota state line. This was near Herreid and Pollock South Dakota. Aasa was known in the community for her cakes and cookies, a baking craft she had learned while working in Haugesund, Norway. She also was a midwife.
