Misc. Notes
Born in the same house as his father, on Willington Hill. Family bible lists his marriage as 29 Dec instead of 27 Dec as reported in the Fenton history. Was a carpenter, and resided in Willington until April, 1842, when he sold his place to his father and moved to Mansfield. He then lived one year 1/2 mile north of the Johnson school house, and six years at the Turnpike gate-house 1/2 mile west of Four Corners. In 1849 he moved to Tolland county, 2 miles east of Rockville, where he is listed in the 1850 census as a joiner; and a year later moved to Rockville. In Nov, 1852 he moved to Ohio and lived in the following places: Westerville, Columbus, West Jefferson, Wellington, and Huntington, where he bought a house and some land, and was a resident for some 10 years. He is listed there in the 1860 census as a carpenter (60, NY), with children Solomon and Lucretia - but his wife is listed as Sarah(?). In the fall of 1863, town meetings were held in Huntington and they raised money to pay $100 to each soldier that would re-enlist, to fill their quota of men for the service. Mr. Fenton was made an honorary member of these meetings on the grounds that he had 4 sons and 3 son-in-laws in the U.S. Service (Charles, Henry, and Porter credited to that town).
In 1869 he sold his place and moved to Iowa; living first near Wall Lake, where he is listed as a carpenter (63, NY) in the 1870 census with just his wife (58, NY). He later bought a house and lot at Sibley, Iowa, where his wife died. He died while on a visit to Dows, in Wright Co, Iowa on 5 Aug, 1878.
