Misc. Notes
Referred to as "Aunt Ellie"
Ohio birth and christenings index says she was born in 1873, which seems verified by the 1880 census, although all subsequent records list it as 1872,
Is listed as being born on April 1st, 1873 on the family group record, but her death as listed in the Grice bible on Dec 28, 1945 says that she was 73 yrs, 9 mos, 27 days old - which would put her birth in 1872 rather than 1873. The 1900 census says that she was born in April 1873, but I don’t put a lot of faith in their accuracy unless otherwise confirmed.
Ella was left with two young daughters and no home when Alex died in 1911, as they were living on the Lindsay farm in exchange for working it. Ella purchased four rooms of the old hotel that was then being torn down on School Street and done most of the funishing herself. She dug the basement with a shovel and hauled out the dirt in a wheelbarrow. She then married Bill Sherman and moved to Marion, Ohio. Living with Mr Sherman proved impossible so Ella and Marie moved to Mansfield, Ohio in 1917. Ella married James Coleman in 1921, they bought back the house on School Street where they lived for 22 yrs. Lived on Bell St in Bellville at the time of her death.
Died of cerebrovascular renal disease. Her headstone says 1872-1945.
