Edith Grice wrote that she was from Germany. Hardesty's Encyclopedia listed her place of birth as Chambersberg, while her granddaughter- Marie Spriggins Greene said that it was Lancaster Co, OH.
She was hunched over as an adult, resulting from rickets as a child.
She filed for Civil War Pension benefits, as the widow of Caleb F. Grice on 9 Jan 1914, shortly after his death.
She is listed as Margaret A. Grice (76, PA) and widowed, living with the family of her daughter Coar Grice Kilgore in 1920.
Died of chronic nephritis.

Edith Grice wrote that he was Pennsylvania Dutch, originally from Holland. He was both a farmer and a carpenter.
From the biography as reported by Bernadene Dickson:
Moved to Ohio with his family at age 9, and started on his own at 18. He is listed in the 1850 census for Ashland County as Caleb Ghrise (19, PA) a house painter along with his brother Joseph (22, PA) and living with famiy of John Goodwin, also a house painter.
Five years later he left for Indiana, where he stayed 1 year, then went to Wisconsin, where he also stayed a year before returning to Washington Twp. where he was married. After his wife and dau died he became a volunteer who enlisted at the age of 31 as Corporal on 13 August 1862 to serve 3 yrs of the war in Captain A. W. Lobacks Company E, 102nd Regiment of Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was appointed Sergeant on 1 June 1864, and was Mustered Out on 30 June 1865 at Nashville, TN. He also served in Co. I, 16th OVI (3 Months).
The discharge papers in poss of Clark Kilgore, OH say "Said Caleb F. Grice was born in Fayette Co in the state of Pennsylvania, is 31 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, gray eyes, brown hair, and by occupation when enrolled, a farmer." He returned to Richland Co, remarried and started another family.
“Grize, Caleb F., farmer; P. O. Belleville; he was born in Fayette Co., Penn., March 14, 1831; he came to this county with his parents in 1840; he remained with them until he was about 18 years old, when he started out in life for himself; he worked at painting and turning for about, five years; he then left this county and went to Indiana where he remained one year; he then left and went to Wisconsin, and resided about one year, then returned to this township and was here about one year, when he was married to Miss Mary Ann Gearhart, Oct. 1, 1857; she was born in Lancaster Co., Penn., Nov. 8, 1841; they had two children, one is living named Alice. In 1861, his first wife died, leaving him with one child; about six years after, he was married to his second wife, Miss Margaret Ann Miller, Oct. 23, 1867; she was born in Lancaster Co., Penn., Sept. 13, 1843; they have five children, four sons and one daughter, named Ulysses S., Oliver J., Charles A., Milton Jay and Ella May; Alice, the daughter of his first wife, was married to Isaac W. Dwire, Feb. 27, 1874; they have one child. Mr. Grize bought the farm formerly owned by John Miller, where he now resides and where he expects to remain the rest of his days. He enlisted in the late war in 1861 for three months, served his time and was discharged, when he enlisted in September, 1862, in Co E, 102d O. V. I. and was discharged in July, 1865; he served three years. Mr. and Mrs. Grize are members of the Evangelical Church. “(sic)
He is listed in the 1880 census for Washington Twp as a farmer, age 49, with his wife and 5 children.
In April 1892 he was elected president of the Washington Twp board of education.
In 1900, he (Mar 1831, PA) and his wife Margaret (Sept 1843, PA) are still in Washington Twp, and their daughter Cora Banks and her 2 children are living with them. They are listed next to their son Sherman and his family.
By 1910, it was just Caleb (73) and Margaret (70) living together, after 43 years of marriage, with 6 of thier 7 children still living.
Died at his home on So. Huron St in Bellville, OH after a lingering illness. Cause of death was listed as dilation of the heart. It lists his father as being from Scotland (information provider- Oliver J. Grice).
