James Wells Warner was born of John and Charity (Wells) Warner in Fayette Co, PA near Brownsville on Sunday, December 16, 1838. In April of 1851 he moved with his father to Beaver Township, Noble Co, Ohio. In Beaver Township on December 24, 1857, he was united in marriage with Mary Frances Carpenter, daughter of Richard and Hannah McMurry-Carpenter, by the Reverend Garves.
To this union thirteen children were born as follows:

His entire life after his first marriage was spent on a farm near Calais in Monroe County, Ohio. He held office of school director in sub-district No. 3 for nine years. He was elected Justice of Peace in 1874 and held the position for a number of years. He also served as Commissioner of Monroe Co. for one term. After the death of Mary F. Warner (October 28, 1835-August 5, 1897) James Wells Warner was united in marriage with Sina Ann Carpenter-Morris (May 31, 1845-September 13, 1904) on December 20, 1898. She was a widowed sister of his first wife.
James Wells Warner was a member of the Beaver Baptist Church but soon after his marriage transferred his membership to Palestine Christian Church. He was a faithful member for fifty years and served many years as an Elder.
He died of cancer on October 14, 1918. He was buried at the Palestine Christian Church Graveyard in Beaver Township.
