Misc. Notes
Based on census records, I have concluded that she was born in 1827. All census records list her as born in Ohio.
The wife of David J. Moats who with her children lived with his parents after his death. Listed at age 23 in 1850 with the parents of David Moats after he died.
Listed again with her father-in-law, David Moats and his wife in 1860. This time as age 32, again with both Francis and Enos also living there.
Listed at age 42 with Elizabeth, David's widow in 1870 still with Enos and Marion. Neither Margaret, Enos nor Marion could write english.
Listed as mother of Enos in 1880 at age 53, which also makes her the mother of Francis Marion Moats. Her father is listed as born in Penn. and mother from Virginia.
Her funeral is recorded in the book of Elder (Rev) John Pritchard on 3 March 1895 as being held at the Barnes school house. It lists her as age 70.
The obit for Margaret Moats dated 7 March 1895, pg 4 in Granville Times says “Wilkins Run, the funeral serice over the remains of the late Margaret Moats were held Monday March 4, 1895”. The researcher at Licking Co Gen Soc said that Wilkins Run is in Mary Ann Twp, and that the Barnes Church and cemetery is in that area.
