Misc. Notes
Married by Samuel Dunnavan in Licking Co on 1 April 1813, and recorded 30 Jun 1813.
The Licking Co history lists David Moats as one of the first dozen or so settlers shortly after the spring of 1813. He was a Private in Capt. Samuel Dunnavan’s Company during the War of 1812, from 31 July thru 5 Sept 1813.
In 1820 he has 4 boys under 10 with he and his wife. Also living nearby is Henry Moats, most probably his brother, taking care of their father.
1830 census lists him as David Motis with:
males 1=5-10, 3=10-15, 1=15-20, 1=40-50
females 2<5, 1=5-10, 1=10-15, 1=30-40
On the same page is Henry Moats with his parents and John Moats, the same age as Henry (brothers?). The county history also says that he and his wife were original members of the Second Methodist Church or Newton Chapel established in Mary Ann Twp in 1834 and erected in 1856. 1840 lists David living next to his son James, who has 2 sons and a daughter plus a brother living with him besides his wife. David's family is:
males 2=5-10, 1=15-20, 1=20-30, 1=50-60
females 2=10-15, 2=15-20, 1=40-50
Also nearby is a William Moats, a few years younger than David. While John and Henry Moats are still in Edan Twp.
1850 mis-indexed as Daniel age 62, b. MD, with wife Elizabeth and 5 children, one of whom is Francis M. Moats! Francis and Enos are grandchildren. A farmer with $800 of land.
1860 lists him as 72, b. MD, with his wife, dau-in-law Margaret and 3 (grand) children and $1,200 of land. He apparently died before 1870, as Elizabeth is listed as head of household in that census.

Misc. Notes
Very possibly the daughter of Ebenezer Brown who is mentioned with David Moats in the history of Licking Co, page 267. Earl Rogers said she is the dau of James Brown, but admits it was mostly an assumption on his part.
Listed as head of household in 1870, with Margaret, Marion, and Enos at home with her and $1,440 of land.
Death record says she died of old age at 82 and was born in Virginia.
