Joseph Wilcox’s debt to the estate of Jesse Bouldin, deceased is mentioned in a Cecil Co mircrofilm document from 29 Jan 1774, pg 174 at the Maryland Hall of Records in Annapolis, MD. Joseph Wilcox subsequently took the oath of allegiance to the American cause in the Revolutionary War at Cecil County, MD in 1778. On 01 April 1782 he purchased for 350 pounds of gold or silver 106 1/2 acres in Cecil County, MD bordering the state line with Delaware. The District 3 tax list for 1783 for North Millford and East Nottingham Hundred, Cecil County, MD shows Joseph Wilcox: 0 slaves, 2 horses of value 32 pounds, 5 black cattle of value 10 pounds, value of other property 9 pounds, owned 100 acres of land of value 50 pounds, total amount 101 pounds, no. of white inhabitants - eleven. On 18 May 1786 he appeared before Samuel Glenn, court justice, and stated that a sorrel mare broke into his enclosures on the 8th of May, 1786. This occurred near Gray’s Hill in Cecil County. An inventory of Joseph Wilcox’s goods and chattels was exhibited on 23 June 1790 amounting to 183 pounds, 15 shillings, and 11 pence. Widow Elizabeth and son Isaac Wilcox were administrators, James Ratliff (Ratcliff) and Nathaniel Dawson were sureties. From this 5 shillings were paid to Patrick Rush for weaving done, 3 shillings and 12 pence to Joshua (Bernard?) for smithwork done, one pound, 3 shillings to grant a letter and 4 pounds, 11 shillings, 2 pence for funeral expenses. The final account on 08 April 1791 distributed the balance of 182 pounds, 12 shillings, and 5 pence as follows: widow Elizabeth (1/3) received 60 pounds, 17 shillings, 5 1/2 pence, the eight children (Isaac, Joseph, Jacob, Elizabeth, William, James, Margaret, Nathaniel) each received 1/8 of the remaining 2/3 (15 pounds, 4 shillings, 4 1/2 pence).

Cecil County On this 5th day of April 1791 came Elizabeth and Isaac Wilcox administrators of all & singular the goods and chattels of Joseph Wilcox late of said county, deceased and made oath on the evangels of Almighty God that the foregoing is a true and perfect list of debts sperate due to the deceased that have come to their hands or possession. Elizabeth Wilcox was listed on the 1790 census at North Millford Hundred, MD. The widow Elizabeth’s will was made 12 October 1802 and proved 20 October 1802 by her brother James Ratcliff. She left 5 shillings to Isaac and Joseph; Jacob received a bed and a chest of drawers; William received a bed, a quilt, and a 3-year old heifer; James received a bed, a quilt, and a 3-year old heifer; Margaret Israel received a side saddle and all wearing apparel except an apron for her sister Margaret Ratcliff, an apron for Mary Wilcox, a gown for granddaughter Elizabeth Wilcox, and a gown, cloak, and apron for Polly Harvey; Nathaniel received a bed, a quilt, and silver shoe buckles.
