MAYNARD G. WELLS RETIRED FARMER
CANTON: Maynard G. Wells, 83, of 10 Meadow Drive, Homer, a native of Canton, died Monday at Cortland Care Center, after a long illness.
For many years, he lived in the Homer area, where he was a member of First United Methodist Church and David Harum Senior Citizens group. He worked for several years at the former Sheffield Milk Plant and was a dairy farmer for Homer Jones before retiring.
Born Sept. 28, 1914 (sic), at Canton, he was a son of Harry and Birdia Crary Wells.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, the former Adelaide A. Greenwood, Homer; two sons, Kenneth R., Truxton, and Maynard N., Dryden; a daughter, Adele Wells Thornton, Scott; a sister, Lena Tower, Johnson City; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A granddaughter died in 1981. Three brothers, Donald, Everett and Eldon, also died before him.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, Homer, with the Rev. Warren E. Covell of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Homer.

Adelaide A. Wells, 88, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2007 in the Cortland Regional Medical Center. Born October 15, 1918 in Evans Mills, NY, one of twelve children born to Enos and Jenny Greenwood.
Adelaide had been a resident, since 1956, of Meadow Drive, Homer and in 2001 moved to Dryden to live with her son, Maynard. Mrs. Wells was a longtime and faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Homer. She was employed for several years at Crescent Corset, retiring in 1981 and had been previously employed at the J-Line Factory in Homer.
Surviving are a daughter, Adelphine Wells Thornton of Homer; son, Maynard N. (Patricia) Wells of Dryden and a daughter-in-law, Rose Potter Wells of Truxton. Also surviving are nine loving grandchildren, several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Maynard G. Wells in 1997, a son, Kenneth R. Wells in 2003; granddaughter, Amy Wells in 1981, seven brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 N. Main St., Homer, with the Rev. Allan J. Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Homer.
