Mrs. Rebecca A. Wells, age 72, passed away at the home of her son, Chandis Wells, four miles west of Carthage, in Hancock County, at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. She had been seriously ill for the past four weeks and death was attributed to complications.
Mrs. Wells resided at 311 Howard street, this city, until she went to live with her son, in February.
The deceased was born in Shelby county May 20, 1866, and was the daughter of Joseph Woods and Sarah C. Walker. On March 1, 1888, she married Oliver Wells, who died in June, 1937. Two of the three children born to the union survive. They are the son, at whose home she died, and one daughter, Mrs. Russell Hunt, of Peru.
Survivors also include two sisters, Mrs. Albert Main, of Shelbyville, and Mrs. Mamie Mallory, of south of this city; two brothers, Bert Woods, of near Morristown, and William Woods, of Florida; nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at the Vine St M.P. church, of which she was a member. The Rev. James M. Baker, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in the family lot in Forest Hill cemetery in charge of Charles M. Ewing, funeral director.

Living in Shelbyville in 1900 with his wife and two sons, Joseph and Chandis.
In 1910, Joseph's wife and daughter are also living with them, in addition to their 8 yr old daughter M. Katherine (although the census lists their name as Well).
In 1920 his wife, son Chandis and daughter Catherine are living together on Harrison Ave in Shelbyville.
Listed in 1930 census for Shelbyville as a night watchman in a furniture factory (60) with only his wife.

Oliver A. Wells, 75, died at his home, 311 Howard street at 8:40 o'clock Saturday night from a concussion received in a fall from the roof of his home three weeks ago.
Funeral rites will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the home. The Rev. J. M. Baker, pastor of the Vine Street Methodist Protestant church will officiate and burial will be in the Forest Hill cemetery in charge of Charles M. Ewing, funeral director.
Mr. Wells was the son of Samuel and Martha Richey Wells and was born in Decatur county January 31, 1862. His marriage to Miss Rebecca Woods took place March 1, 1880. Two of the three children born to them survive.
They are Chandis E. Wells of Carthage and Mrs. Russell Hunt of Peru, Indiana. Nine grandchildren also survive, with the widow, and one brother, Morgan Wells of Dayton, Ohio.
Mr. Wells had lived in Shelbyville for the past twenty-five years.
