His mother died during his birth.
He is listed as Ray (2, IN) with both his father and with his Uncle William in 1910. And in 1920, he is again with his Uncle William in Indianapolis (age 12), along with his sister Dorothy.
He and Laverne obtained a marriage license on 31 Dec 1925 in Bloomington, but the date of their marriage has not been confirmed.
In 1930, he is newly arrived in Peoria, IL as a machinist (22, IN) for washing machinery, with his wife of 4 years LaVerne (19, IL) and their son Eugene (11 mos, IN).
By 1940 they are back and listed in Warren, IN with Ray (32, IN) working as a machinist for stoker and fan machinery based on his sophomore high school education. His wife Laverne is 29 with an 8th grade education, and their sons Eugene (10, IN) and Donald (9, IL) are both in school. It says they were back in Indiana for over 5 yrs.
Listed as Ray Wells in the SSDI, Florida Death Index and Hernando Co cemetery records. He apparently died in Alachua county, and was buried in Hernando county, since he lived in Brooksville.

Dau of Albert “Bert” Alvin (22 Jan 1885 IL - 1956 IL) and Mildred E. Lawyer b. 1889 IL.
She and Ray got a marriage license on 31 Dec 1925 in Bloomington, but not sure of their marriage date.
Strangely, she appears to be listed in the 1950 census in Indianapolis by herself as Laverne M. Wells (39, IN) and divorced (perhaps they separated briefly), and it appears son Eugene may be at the bottom of the same page.
