He was placed in Gordon Children’s Home in 1922 along with his brothers, when his parents separated, where he is listed as Joseph Paul Wells. He was released to William Eck on 30 July 1927.
He is incorrectly listed in 1930 as Paul Welch (sic) in Greensburg, IN (19, IN) living as a lodger in the same home as his brother Harlan, working as a Barber.
He is listed as Private (28, IN) in the Army at Ft Leavenworth, KS for the 1940 census, and it says that he was living in Shelbyville, IN in 1935. He married Evelyn at the end of the year, and they settled in Frankfort by the end of WWII, where they lived the rest of their lives.
Was apparently in the Veterans Hospital at Marion, IN in 1972 when his mother died.

Paul Joseph Wells, 78, Frankfort, died at 12:15 p.m. March 7, 1990 in Clinton House Convalescent Center. He had been ill for five weeks.
Mr. Wells was retired from Swift & Co. He was a member of Zion Apostolic Tabernacle.
Mr. Wells served in the Army in the Pacific during World War II. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans.
He was born June 7, 1911 in Shelby County, Indiana to Richard and Bertha Herron Wells. He married Evelyn Lucile Howe on December 7, 1940, and she survives.
Other survivors include a son, Larry J., of Kokomo; a daughter, Rebecca Hobson of Orrville, Ohio; a brother, Chester Wells of Florida; and seven grandchildren. One grandson preceded him in death.

Evelyn Lucile Wells of Kokomo, IN died on 3/22/2005 at 8:50 pm. She was born on 12/29/1910 in Frankfort the daughter of William Howe and Rosa (Wilson) Howe. Married Paul Joseph Wells on December 7, 1940 in Frankfort, IN and he preceded her in death March 7, 1990. Mrs. Wells was a 1928 graduate of Frankfort High School. She was a homemaker and a member of Zion Apostolic Tabernacle. Services will be at 10:30 am Saturday, March 26, 2005 at Goodwin Funeral Home with Robert Hackler officiating. Mrs. Wells will be laid to rest at Bunnell Cemetery in Frankfort, IN.
