Listed as both Malinda and Jennie in various records.
She is listed as age 7 with her widowed mother and older sisters in 1870. Then with her remarried mother Malinda Utley in Missouri in 1880.
She married Robert E. Wells in 1884, and had two sons with him before they were divorced. She then married James Jacob Kilmer on 25 Oct 1896 in White Co, IL….. about the same time that Robert Wells married her younger sister Elizabeth (Betsy).
In 1900 Malinda is listed with her new husband and his 3 children plus her 2 sons from Robert Wells and 2 month old son George R. Kilmer, as well as her widowed mother, Malinda B. Utley (71, IN). Saying that she was the mother of 6 children, with only 3 of them still living.
It erroneously states that they have been married 15 yrs, instead of the actual 4.
By 1920, her mother had died, and only sons George and Daniel remained at home in addition to her step-son Robert.
The 1930 census lists only Malinda (66, IN) and husband Jake (71, KY) together and retired. It lists their respective first marriages at age 18 and 31.
She is last listed in the 1940 census, as Malinda J. Kilmer alone and widowed in Maunie, IL at age 76.

He is listed in Zif Twp, Wayne Co, IL in 1880, after their father’s death, as a farmer (22, IN) with his sisters Amanda (20), Emma (14) and Rosa (11).
He was first married to Malinda Jane Brower in 1884, with whom he had two sons, William and Robert. They were apparently divorced around 1895, as both remarried just after that time.
He was re-married in 1897 to Elizabeth “Bettie” Brower (Malinda’s older sister), who had been previously married twice to a Bradley and Dever. In 1900 they are listed as married 3 yrs, with Robert listed as born Nov 1855 (IL), and Elizabeth in Feb 1852 (IN) with 4 of her 6 children living; all of whom were with them -
Gilbert Dever (15), Florence Dever (13), Frederick Dever (11) and Jasper Bradley (26) & son Oscar Bradley (2).
After his second wife died in 1909, he was married a third time to Lucy Webb in 1910, and is listed with her (29, IN) and her son from a first marriage, Roscoe Phillips (7, IN) as well as her father J. A. Webb (72, IN) in the 1910 census where Robert (45, IN) is listed as a farm laborer.
He has not been found in the 1920 census, although his wife was listed as widowed with her son in Mt Vernon, IN. And then Robert is also listed as widowed on his death certificate in 1925 in Posey Co, IN, with the information being provided by a Mrs. Wm V. Wilson rather than his wife.
