Misc. Notes
His two draft registrations list his birth as 16 Mar 1891 and 14 Apr 1892 respectively.
His 1913 marriage record shows his name as Shaye Kartusinsky.
His WWI draft registration record in 1917 lists his birth as 16 Mar 1891, and states that he is an alien from Minsk (province) Russia with a wife and two children, living on Van Nostrand Ave in Jersey City and working as a jitney driver. He is described as short, medium build with blue eyes and black hair.
Charles (29, RUS) is listed in Jersey City in 1920 as a Jitney chauffeur where it says he immigrated in 1906 and was naturalized in 1919. His wife Jennie (28, RUS) immigrated in 1903 and was also naturalized in 1919. Their children were Harold (5, NY), Nettie (4yr 1mo, NY), and Albert (1yr 9mo, NJ).
Same place and family info in 1930, except he (39) and Jennie (38) are listed as being born in Poland and he now shows immigrated in 1905 and a bus driver.
Their 1940 census data was apparently submitted by daughter Nettie, and lists Charles and Jennie as both being age 47, born in Russia. All 4 children were still living at home at the time.
Charles Karter’s WWII draft registration lists his birth date as 14 Apr 1892, and says he was unemployed, still living on Van Nostrand Ave in Jersey City, Bergen Co, NJ.
He and Jennie are listed in West New York, NJ in 1950, both age 58 and naturalized. Living with them are sons Albert (32, NY) working as a bus drvier and Arthur J (19, NJ) a clerk in the post office.

She is listed as Sheine Karenicky when she immigrated on 21 Feb 1904 to New York aboard the Patricia from Hamburg with just her father Hersch. Listed in other records as Karelitzky, with her last name as Karel on their marriage record, and then referenced as Carel on son Harold’s SSN record.
She had 4 sisters and 4 brothers: Isaac (Isadore) b. 1880 & wife Sadie; Abraham b. 1883 & wife Rebecca; Sam b. 1886 & wife Lena; Jennie; Joseph b. 1894 & wife Fannie Goldstein.
Note: Karel is likely an anglicized version of Karelitzky. The same place as the Yizkor book, a few miles from the Kartorinsky ancestral home.
