Married a second time, after his first wife died. The children and his second wife, Ida, came over in two groups in 1903-1913 and 1921; Avram was elderly, had arthritis, and stayed behind. The first set of children to immigrate were literate, while the second set were not.
According to Hal, and Max’s marriage record, his name was Abraham Kartusinsky (wife Nittie) and he was a banker or money lender and a successful businessman with enough money to send his children to America. Other family stories say he was a tailor and an engineer.
