By 1930 he was living with his widowed grandmother, Mary Recklein (71, IL), as Clarence Wells (13, IL).
When married in 1949, he had received his M.A. degree at Washington University, and beloged to Sigma Xi fraternity. A member of the faculty of St Louis Country Day School, he served for four and a half years in the Army.

Wells, C. Robert of Kirkwood, Missouri, died Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at the age of 101. Loving husband of the late Margaret E. Wells; devoted father of Robert A., James S. (Diane), and Ellen J. Underhill; caring grandfather of Michael B. Wells, Karilyn N. Wells, William R. Underhill, and Charlotte L. Underhill; great-grandfather of S. William Wells. He was born in East St. Louis on January 5, 1917 to the late Clarence H. and Jane S. Wells. As a boy, he was active in Scouting, becoming an Eagle Scout. As a teen, he worked three summers on the aquatics staff at Dan Beard's camp in Pennsylvania. He earned degrees from Blackburn College and Washington University. In WWII, he served in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he taught at St. Louis Country Day School between 1945-1959 and 1961-19 79, and at Kirkwood High School between 1959-1961. He served as elder and as clerk of the Session at First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood. He remained active in the Boy Scouts, serving as a scoutmaster and as an Eagle Scout presenter. He was a longtime member of the Missouri Botanical Garden, the Webster Groves Nature Society, and the St. Louis Opera Guild. Services: Visitation 2:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 24 at BOPP Chapel, 10610 Manchester Rd., Kirkwood. Memorial service 1:00 p.m., Wed., April 25 at First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood, 100 E. Wells, Marian H. (nee Hoppe) died Sunday, January 22,2012 at the age of 86. Loving mother of Robert A. and James S. (Diane) Wells; dear sister of Kenneth A. (Pat), William L. (Pat) and Carl F. (Diane) Hoppe; caring grandmother of Michael B. and Karilyn N. Wells, aunt, cousin and friend. Raised in Richmond Heights and Ferguson, she graduated from Ferguson High School in 1943. She worked as an occupational therapist at Malcolm Bliss Mental Health Center from 1967- 1988.

Barbara is listed in the 1930 Portland census, age 2 yrs 11 mos, with her parents Arthur Thomas Eaton (46, ENG) a minister, Ellen Mary “Helen” (37, AUS) and step-brother Wilbur (10, AUS). Her father was born 4 Apr 1883 Clapham, ENG and died 9 Sep 1932 in Portland. Her mother was born 15 May 1892 in Heatherton, Victoria, Australia and applied for citizenship in 1940.
In 1940, after her father’s death, Barbara (13, OR), her mother Ellen M. (47, AUS) and step-brother Wilbur B. (20, AUS) were living in Puyallup, WA. Then back in Portland in 1950.

Wells, Margaret (nee Eaton) on Saturday, February 28, 2015. Beloved wife of 53 years to C. Robert Wells. Loving mother of Robert Wells, James (Diane) Wells, and Ellen (Ian) Underhill. Dear grandmother of Michael, Karilyn, William, and Charlotte. Sister of the late Wilbur Eaton. Dear aunt, cousin, and friend to many. Margaret was a 1948 graduate of Lewis & Clark College, Portland, OR and received her Master's Degree in Social Work from Washington University in 1958. Margaret was a member of the National Association of Social Workers where she was the State Branch Chair, Research section, was on the Girl Scout Council of Greater St. Louis as Vice Chairman, Field and recipient of the President's Award. She was the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Kirkwood Public Library, and later Chairman of the Board of Friends of the Kirkwood Public Library. Margaret was a 50 year member of First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood, where she served as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and as an Elder was Chairman of the Music Committee. Services: Memorial Service Wednesday March 4th, 2pm at First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood. Interment private. Visitation Tuesday 2 - 7pm at Bopp Chapel. www.boppchapel.com
