There is a Samuel Wells, age 36, farmer - married listed in the 1865 Docket of Military Registration (enrollment) for Fayette Co. Farmer (age 44) living in Jefferson Twp in 1870 ($2,100 land). Listed as 52 yrs old in 1880. Will said he had a coal mine on 40 Acres and another of about 80 Acres (Cockburn tract). Obit said he left a widow and four daughters, had lived there all his life, was industrious and well thought of, had been born poor but acquired considerable property. Funeral services were held by Rev T.S. Negley of the Little Redstone Presbyterian Church. He had 5 children, 4 of whom grew up. At the time of his wife's death, there were 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson, all in Jefferson Twp.
