DEATH CALLS MRS. WALTS - TYPHOID CLAIMS LIFE OF WELL KNOWN WOMAN
Mrs. Alice Amilda [sic] Walts, a well known woman of this county, died at her home south of this city yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock after an illness of over three weeks. She had just recovered from a severe attack of pneumonia, when she was stricken with typhoid, which caused her death.
Mrs. Walts was the loving wife of William Walts, the well known rancher of this county and came to this city with her husband about twenty years ago. She was born in Jones County, Iowa, on February 26, 1855, and when only a child of seven years accompanied her parents across the plains to Milford, in Honey Lake Valley.
It was there that she married William Walts. They lived in Honey Lake Valley for a number of years and later came to Reno and settled on the ranch which, since that time until death claimed her, was her home.
Besides a husband, she leaves four sons, Frederick, Guy, Herbert and Claud, and one daughter, Bonnie. She also leaves her mother, Mrs. Martha Steinberger, a brother, Eugene and a sister, Mrs. John Matley.

He is listed in Lassen Co, CA after the Civil War in 1870 as a corker (23, NY) living with F. A. Washburn, a farmer.
In 1880 he is listed (32, NY) as a farmer with his wife Alice (25, IA) and sons Frederick (7, CA) and Guy (5, CA).
Listed (53, NY) near his brother in 1900 Reno census, a farmer married 28 years, with his wife, two sons and a daughter, although all 5 of his children were living.
Widowed in 1910, with his daugher Bonnie, next to son Guy.
Listed as widowed (77, NY) in Reno in 1920 near his sons, Herbert and Guy.

PIONEER RANCHER CLAIMED BY DEATH
William Walts, one of the best known ranchers of the Truckee Meadows, died this morning at his home at 429 West First street after an illness of three weeks. His children were at the bedside when the end came.
Mr. Walts was born at Fareport, Monroe Co, NY, 25 January 1841, and would have been eighty-six years old next January. He lived in New York until the outbreak of the Civil war, and enlisted in the Union forces as soon as he was of age. He served in the army for three years, and after the war, came to San Francisco over the Isthmus of Panama.
From San Francisco, Mr. Walts went to Milford, CA, and in Milford he married Miss Alice Steinberger. Four sons, F. E. Walts, G. W. Walts, H. E. Walts of Reno, C. R. Walts of San Francisco, and one daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Plath of Reno, were born of this marriage.
Besides his five children, he leaves thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Walts came to Reno forty-one years ago, and for many years, he was one of the most prominent ranchers of the South Truckee Meadows.
Funeral services will be announced later, and will be in charge of the Odd Fellows, of which Mr. Walts was a member for fifty-eight years.
