Listed with his wife of less than a year, Rachel, in 1900 as a carpenter (Jun 1869, IN), living in Indianapolis.
The census record for 1910 lists him as Wm F. Wells (39) and her as Raechal C. (36), married 10 yrs as the first for both of them, with all 4 of their children living and with them: Alberta (9), Forest (7), Dorothy (3), and Esther (12 mos).
In 1920 they are listed with their 3 children; son Forest (17, IN), Dorothy (13, IN), and Esther (10, IN), with him still being a carpenter working as a contractor.
By 1930, Forest had left home and Dorothy was married 5 yrs to Charles R Porter (26, IN), who with their daughter Margie J. (4, IN) were also living with Wm and Rachel, plus dau Esther.
William and Rachel were living alone in 1940 at ages 70 and 65. It says he completed the 6th grade and she the 8th.

William T. Wells, 78 years old, 1167 Udell Street, a resident of the North Side 5 years, died yesterday in his home. He was a retired carpenter, a member of St. Paul Methodist Church, and charter member of Winemac Council, Improved Order of Red Men. He was born in Johnson county. Funeral services will be held at 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in Flanner & Buchanan Mortuary. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Rachel Wells; two daughters, Mrs. Alberta Odlin Kaler, Columbus, and Mrs. Dorothy Porter, Indianapolis, a son, Forest W. Wells; a brother, Robert Wells, and sister, Mrs. Forest Overstreet, all of Indianapolis, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
