[Obituary] Red Bank Register - Weds, 6 Apr 1910
Oceanport lost two of its oldest women residents by death last week. They were Mrs. Caroline Clayton, who died last Wednesday after a short sickness; and Mrs. Margaret Roach Conrow, who died Saturday morning after having been an invalid a long time. The combined aged of the two women was 156 years. On the day of Mrs. Clayton's funeral Mrs. Conrow died. Her death occurred six days after she became a widow by the death of her husband, John S. Conrow. She had been confined to her bed by rheumatism several years. She was a native of Shrewsbury and her maiden name was Margaret Roach. She was 73 years old. In 1857 she married Mr. Conrow. The couple lived at Eatontown previous to moving to Oceanport. Mrs. Conrow leaves six children, William, Edward R. and Arthur Conrow and Mrs. Charles Moodhe of New York; J. Franklin Conrow of Hoboken and H. Whitney Conrow of Oceanport. The funeral was held yesterday. Mrs. Conrow was buried at Long Branch beside her husband.

JOHN S. CONROW OF OCEANPORT EXPIRES AT AGE OF 79 YEARS.
The Early Years of His Life Were Spent on a Whaling Vessel and Be Salled Around the World-Wounded in a Battle in the Civil War.
John Stilwell Conrow, a veteran of the civil war, died Sunday at his home at Oceanport. He had been in failing health a long time and death was due to asthma, complicated with other diseases.
Mr. Conrow was born 79 years ago at Shrewsbury. When sixteen years of age he obtained a position on a whaling vessel, and the following five years of his life were spent on the water. During his career as a sailor Mr. Conrow traveled around the world. Shortly after the outbreak of the civil war he enlisted in the 29th New Jersey volunteers. He fought at the battle of Gettysburg and in several other engagements. He was wounded in one battle and was taken to a hospital.
After the war Mr. Conrow engaged in the mason business at Eatontown. Four years later he moved to Oceanport where he had since lived. He had been unable to work the past fifteen years on account of poor health.
He leaves six children, they being H. Whitney Conrow of Oceanport, Edward R., William S. and Arthur Conrow and Mrs. Charles Moody of New York, and J. Franklin Conrow of Hoboken. He is also survived by a wife, who was Miss Margaret Roach of Shrewsbury. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at the house and the burial was in Glenwood cemetery at Long Branch.
